Marie, RE: IBM

Thanks for reprinting your very timely article about IBM's SiGe efforts from July/August Compound Semiconductor Magazine. [Who said the print media were doomed in the online age? ;-)] I think that many investors have a perception that Gerstner is a very bright finance guy but that he lacks insight on the development of leading edge technology products. They cite as examples the deals that IBM spun with Uniphase and Tellabs last year of their DWDM patents and staff at TJ Watson Research Center, viewing these as examples of IBM's inability to commercially sow the seeds that they reap. Many thought the deals were overly generous to Tellabs and Uniphase.

Do you agree with these critics and do you find any reason not to expect similar results from their efforts in SiGe?
