Cable Modems Regaining Speed With Vendors

Are cable modems about to have their day in the sun? Quite
possibly, although it is likely to be slow in coming.

A little more than a year ago, cable modems seemed poised to
take off. Analysts believed the threat from cable modems would
be the competitive driving force that would push carriers to
speed the deployment of DSL services.

However, the cable modem threat never materialized. But it is
finally getting attention from equipment vendors including Cisco,
Bay Networks and 3Com.
