They just keep reconfirming the conclusions that we have already reached....from the data we already have.... This is a 2020 article evaluating data from 2006 that is based on <in large part> on what we learned from 1918/19, 1948-52, 1957, 1968-69...make sure you read the "Disease Mitigation Measures in the Control of Pandemic Influenza" white paper embedded in the article. It seems clear to me that they followed this to the letter, but where they <authors rather modestly> implied that the measures evaluated were ineffective and anathema, Governments said - let's do that - what fun!!!!!

- edit: every Gov't response measure that we have experienced is covered in the White Paper.....
- edit 2: note that the article mentions that it would take 5 years (2006) to retool the drug manufacture process to inoculate the entire USA.....but now we generate enough for the world...multiple doses....boosters....?
- And a comment: another thing (thing being curtails on liberty) that comes to light wrt the Bush II years....thinking this has been the case for a LONG while....just the technology age came to maturity.

Ideas have consequences, as they say. Dream up an idea for a virus-controlling totalitarian society, one without an endgame and eschewing any experienced-based evidence that it would achieve the goal, and you might see it implemented someday. Lockdown might be the new orthodoxy but that doesn’t make it medically sound or morally correct. At least now we know that many great doctors and scholars in 2006 did their best to stop this nightmare from unfolding. Their mighty paper should serve as a blueprint for dealing with the next pandemic.
