I think some of the concern about the lack of solemnity surrounding Saddam's death comes down to what might be expected of a mature society in which its representatives are carrying out a judicial mandate (execution). Whatever the personal feelings of the representatives of the government and populace, in carrying out their duties they should be professional and non-partisan. They are, after all, simply the arm of an unbiased court.

Sadly, the execution, like so much in Iraq, apparently could not be done without sectarian issues coming front and center.

For those looking for reasons why Iraq is not ready for the Shiite and Sunni to lie down together...(not to mention the Kurds), it is more proof. Religious sect comes FIRST...government role comes second (or third.).
