soup, im not sure you are correct about performas being good products; when I compared their guts to the say clone power pc I was upset; to pull inside from the performa, you sort of have to unlign ist from the motherboard and reinserting it after ram expansion, is much more difficult; compared to the old macs IIcis etc; I felt the performas were cheaply made and I did not buy one because I felt the clone was better and price was a problem, so Im not so sure its only marketing; Dont get me wrong I love the mac, own the stock, but even toyed with the idea of a new pc (uugh!). my point is, I think that this is a common experience for old mac users who have not upgraded; and apple is losing not just on marketing, but also on price and perhaps quality of machine.
