"viewing these as examples of IBM's inability to commercially sow the seeds that they reap...do you find any reason not to expect similar results from their efforts in SiGe?"

I think there are two issues here. The first is: Does the semiconductor business need SiGe? This is unproven at this point. There is a performance gap between Si and GaAs. IBM thinks that SiGe bridges that gap. There are many others who disagree. I'm not capable of doing my own independent analysis.

The second issue is: If there is a need for SiGe, is IBM the company to bring it to the market? On one hand, they should have an easier time with this than they did with their laser business in Zurich, because processing SiGe circuits is pretty similar to processing Si circuits, and IBM is doing that in volume already...but the laser business was a whole new enterprise. But on the other hand, it is difficult for me to imagine that IBM could be as agile as ANAD, TQNT and VTSS. Moreover, IBM has to make the whole project credible.
