hey joe,

re: "I'm kinda fed-up with Microsoft... Will not waste any more time with them!"

suit yourself, for sure. but imo, they make a good browser. i use netscape communicator almost exclusively, mainly because i've grown quite comfortable with it. but i keep a copy of ie5.0 installed on my machines and go to it every now and again. i'd venture to say 5.0 is a far better browser than 3.0!

"Will the newer IE's install properly now?!"

i sure think so. i recommend getting it from the ms site, so that you are not getting a copy that is rigged up some other way.

"If not, what do I have to do to get it right?"

glad you asked. <g3> joe, there are always a few basics that should be adhered to whenever any software is installed. in fact, imo, failing to follow a few guidelines can result in crappy installs (now there's a technical term for ya!) and numerous problems, none of which are the fault of the software manufacturer. again, jmo.

so if you want ie5.0, i suggest removing ie3.0 from your machine. use windows add/remove program to do so. then go get the browser from the mister softee site. once you've downloaded it, then stop! before installing, do some basic system preparation and maintenance in order to help ensure a nice, smooth install. first of all, delete all cache, history and temp internet files. then go to your recycle bin and dump them (and all the other trash) out of there. then defrag your system. finally, prior to installing the browser, shut off all apps that are running on your machine except explorer and systray. then open the browser set up file and do your install. it should ask you during the process if you want to make ie5.0 your default browser. being that you've declared your love for netscape (my man!) then you'll want to tell bill "no". it may automatically become the default anyway. if so, we can switch it back.

let us know if you have any other questions. and good luck!

:)
