The real problem with liberal economic policies such as higher minimum wage and confiscatory tax policies is that in every country that implements these things, you have increased structural unemployment --- something that explains why these structurally higher unemployment numbers everywhere else are regarded as miracles.

So when Kerry says he wants to legislate/coerce higher production costs, he really is unconsciously talking about policies that have been proven to cause higher structural unemployment all over the world.

Kerry's favorite model of governance : France, for much of the last ten years had unemployment numbers well in excess of 10%, and now at 9.5% in 2004.

I say the partisan hacks are spinning overtime on the economic issues, and most people are probably wondering which country these people live in, to see so much economic gloom and doom all around them.
