Can anyone explain the 585,000 jobs lost figure to me? In general I understand the environment, but can't find the basis for the reports. If I look at the Labor Dept stats (ftp://ftp.bls.gov/pub/suppl/empsit.ceseeb1.txt) it sort of comes close, but only if you consider Goods Producing, if you include services its a net gain. Also I don't really see any historical stats that go before 1954 to validate/invalidate the Hoover claims :-) John
