Gary, The Fabulous Market Babe in her column today thinks Intel needs AMD to do well. Where I disagree with her is in her statement:
>>>it is not as though AMD is unable to sell its chips,<<<
You can't sell what you can't produce.

>>>Now let's shift our focus to AMD.
With regards to AMD, INTC does need them to do well.
That's right, INTC does need AMD to do well.
After all, if AMD ever does get its act together, it makes life a whole lot easier for INTC in the antitrust world.
Which leads to our next question...
How does AMD get its act together?
For starters, AMD needs for the K7 (its next generation chip) to do well, in order for its profit margins to get a shot in the arm.
As for the preannouncement last night, it is not as though AMD is unable to sell its chips, it is just that its nemesis (otherwise known as INTC) recently cut prices on its Celeron and Pentium II chips, forcing AMD to match INTC's prices, and thus driving profits down.<<< |
