I attended a private Lutheran school as a young kid. One night after hoops practice (in 7th grade) I walked by a door where the Pastors and church council were meeting. I overheard one of them say "A debt free church is a dead church." I knew listening to a private conversation was wrong so I continued. The long and short of the matter was the church had gobs of money and could afford to pay off everything but they were worried that donations would suffer. The next Sunday (why I was in church I have no idea - I had given it up for Lent) I sat and listened to the Pastor talk about the difficult financial struggles the church was facing (they cooked the ledger). I was fkn amazed as was my father because I told him of the conversation I overheard the night I heard it. He didn't say anything to me afterwards but skipping church wasn't much of an issue after that.

When I think back to that experience it makes me call into question ALL the budget BS in this country. I understand what a "trade deficit" is but who's keeping the ledger and when exactly do we square up? Think of it this way - China ships us a whole bunch of their shit and we ship them our shit (albeit less). In the process each country taxes the materials to make the shit, the energy to move the shit, the land that the factory sits on to produce the shit, the wages that are paid to the employees who are making the shit and those wages are paid from taxed profits that come from the production of the shit.

I'm beginning to think the whole thing could be summed up like this:

A debt free country is a dead country

More debt = more urgency = more worker productivity = more taxes and the reality is we (meaning the entire globe) will NEVER square up because there's too much profit in squeezing the labor force for greater productivity because it generates more taxes from the entire shitty process mentioned above

Welcome to Gloopomics

I'm not quite as creatively jovial today.
