Stock Detective Light - March 22, 1999...

We've got two additions to The List in this edition of Stock Detective Light. One is a seemingly one-horse show, while the second site fronts a variety of information.

Stock-Market 1999 is promoting only one stock at the moment. But it seems to be a lucrative client, indeed. SoftNet Industries gave Stock-Market 1999 40,000 shares of free trading stock for its promotional efforts. The promoter agreed not to sell those shares until March 28, but what the heck. Stock-Market 1999 has full disclosure, and it's pretty easy to find simply by scrolling to the bottom of the page.

Stock Plaza offers readers a variety of information - from quotes to portfolios. Although the profiles are all paid promotions, disclosure is not as clear as it could be. From the Stock Plaza home page, readers can link to Capital Concepts, which prepares some of the site's promotional materials. The disclaimer on Capital Concepts tells you that employees and family members of Capital Concepts and its parent company, Virtual Financial Corp., may own shares in featured companies and that companies sometimes compensate them. For full details, readers are directed to individual profiles, of which there are four. Only three have disclosure, and one of these is a little ambiguous as to how Virtual Financial got the 300,000 options it owns. More curious is the apparent disappearance of the disclosure for the fourth company profiled, Bidnow.com. Bidnow.com was featured last week in Red Light District. According to a previous disclosure document posted on the site, when Bidnow.com was profile under its former name, Auction Television Network, Inc., Virtual Financial was given 700,000 options exercisable at $2.50. That disclosure was not available on either Bidnow.com's or Stock Plaza's sites today.

As always, tread lightly………………………
