Marco Polo, don't you think that the Big money players, CPQ, DELL, HP, etc... Would be able to hire away some very savvy Linux Guru's if and when they start pumping out volumes of pre-loaded Linux machines?

If, say, GM is going to install Linux servers, and buy the hardware from CPQ, then shouldn't CPQ provide the software support? I know that Redhat has made alliances with some of the big players. But, unless they get money invested from the big players, their alliances shift from one day to the next.

I'm not trying to dis Redhat, I'm just trying to understand the viability of the business model.

MSFT survived because they had/have an iron grip on the code. If AAPL had written an OS for IBM compatible machines, then IMHO, MSFT would have had a rough time of it. Redhat can end up with any number of competitors.

My strategy for buying RHAT would be to get in on the IPO, if possible and hold for the long haul. Maybe they will get bought out by one of the big player that have invested in them initially. If I can't get the IPO then I think I'll stay away from it for awhile, just to watch how it reacts. I made some money on MPTH, MRBA, and RAZF day trading the first couple of days of trading. It was nerve racking. I don't hold them any more but I still watch them. They are way down from the first few days. Keep up with the analysis. I respect your skepticism.
