Hi James,
Good post, accurate and to the point.
All other things being equal, of course auto makers will want to
use their own engines. If D-B puts in lots of R&D $$ to make an
engine, it is plausible that BMW or others will conclude that the
cheapest, fastest way to market is an OEM deal with D-B/Ballard
for engines.
If not, then they may still go with Ballard's fuel cell (picky point
here - there is no "Daimler-Ballard" fuel cell, only a Ballard
fuel cell - unless of course you mean because Daimler own's 25% now,
in which case we should be referring to it as a
Ballard-Daimler-Firoz-James-Garth-Edward-Don-Brian-ButNotSid fuel
cell ;-)
By the way, most consumers never realize it when they get an OEM
type product. Typically the producing co's name is hidden away
somewhere inside the product, and all the visible labelling makes
it look like a product built by the selling co.
Garth.
