The Scandinavian countries are huge planners with huge governments and high taxes.

Probably not to the extent you think they particularly about the planing part. They have high taxes, but not central planing. And they didn't have particularly high taxes during the period when the became rich countries.

No one ever said you couldn't have both an open capitalist system and the above.

Central planning and an open capitalist system are pretty much opposites.
