Win 7 and Virtual machines. As far as doing anything useful, like even playing games, I have found Win 7 virtual PC useless. It can only run XP and Vista in a hobbled sort of way. but then I downloaded this free software... VMware® Player All you got to do is register. It's amazing and I have found it easy to use. For example I used my Acronis Plus rescue disc to pluck out a recent image of Win 2k and plop it onto a virtual drive and run up the OS on a virtual machine, I am now loading up Ubuntu onto another machine and that is running nicely too. It's upgrading from 10.0 to 11.4 as I type this. You can run several machines at once if you have enough ram. You can get versions for most operating systems though, including 64 bit OS's and Linux. There is VM support package that downloads automatically so you can get the machines video card up to speed, run USB's, everything the virtual machine needs so that the OS can run normally. VM player. Free. vmware.com What a nice change. I tried to do this last year with Win 7 but that seems to be specially designed not to do anything useful as far as virtual machines is concerned. A characteristic that Microsoft have always seemed to specialize in over the years. They screw with things so you can't get anything done without buying loads more stuff. Defragmentation is just one example of the long story.
