A few days ago someone referred to a chart which I posted way back in 1997. The chart, from Forbes 7/7/97 issue, compared the adoption of technologies by showing the the fraction of households that enjoy each product to the number of years from the date of invention.

The numbers were and still are illuminating. The three fastest growing technologies compared, the PC, cell phone and the Internet, have all come a long way in the last two years. The PC at 50% of households only 24 years from it's invention, compares to electricity, which took 55 years to reach the same plateau. I don't know the numbers now for the Internet and cell phones but the rate of adoption has been incredible.

If one has the time, the entire 7/7/97 issue is well worth assimilating.
