The Julian Jaynes theory cannot explain why an isolated group, such as Austrailian Aboriginies, appear to have developed self conscienceness without exposure to the Middle Eastern societies. There certainly wasn't enough time for an organic change to take place so he must be writing about some self aware idea of which people were ignorant before a few thousand years ago. All in all I think he argues from a far too Euro-centric and limited view.
