Sunw's lonely battle:

after dec acquisition, cpq will already licenses two unix versions, one of which is full 64bit
(DEC). Why would they pay sunw for Solaris? HWP has their own UNIX. Sunw's vision to
license unix is over. Just like their attempt to make a clone market for sparc? Remember that?
Ross sure does.
>>>>>>>>>

I wonder if even DEC is sure about the future of their Unix now
that Compaq would tell them what to do. As I see it, SUN is
the only company that has a roadmap for Unix. It would make sense
for Compaq and Dell to license Solaris because it has more
applications than any other Unix flavor. But your point is well
taken - why should they? They don't need to when they have a cashcow
in NT.

>>>>>>>>>
DELL will not license Solaris unless they buy Sunw (which they won't).

PS:

I think we are at the beginning of two things:
1) The bloom is off of JAVA's rose. The press is beginning to finally look beyond the hype. I am
reading more and more negative JAVA articles. And I expect to read many more.
>>>>>>>>

It's probably because you want to read only those articles that talk
negatively about Java. I'd suggest that you try the SUN website for
what's going on in Java - java.sun.com

With the all the negatives, you can see how much of Java is being
brewed.

>>>>>>>>
2) From now on, people will be focusing on Sunw going it alone. No NT strategy. NO NT
integration services. No CONTINGENCY plan for sunw shareholders. Wouldn't it be
PRUDENT to at least have a CONTINGENCY plan for you guys. Or is HATING msft more
important than preserving shareholder wealth?

>>>>>>>>>

There is no contingency plan - the plan is SPARC, Solaris, JAVA.
It's been the plan and will be. The shareholders need to bother
only if they don't meet expectations.

Babu
