B: Weiner's Stores Inc. Reports December 2000 Sales
HOUSTON, Jan 5, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Weiner's Stores Inc. (OTCBB:WEIR)
announced today that total sales in its continuing stores for the five-week
period ended Dec. 30, 2000 increased 11.5% compared to the same period last
year. The continuing store sales were $29.2 million for the five-week period
ended Dec. 30, 2000 compared to $26.2 million in the same period of 1999.
Comparable store sales increased 4.6% compared to the same period last year.
Because the company closed 44 stores earlier in 2000, sales from the 44 closed
stores have been excluded from the December 1999 results.
Weiner's is a convenient neighborhood family retailer that offers a complete
assortment of branded products for value-conscious consumers. Currently,
approximately 2,700 associates are employed at the 97 stores that are operated
in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.
