Kaliningrad in its days as Koenigsberg used to be an important city. Nowadays, afaik, it isn’t. It just has a bunch of military bases.

Lithuania and Poland do not have direct borders with Russia. Latvia and Estonia do - but I doubt that they’d agree to become entry points for any war against Russia. They are careful. Same for Finland (I hope).

A 1500 mile border with Ukraine - in the middle of Europe - is important. I can see that.
