Dershowitz is an irrefutable Zionist who is trying to obscure Carter's Israeli critical point of view by associating him with so called "Muslim money".

What the Mid-East needs is thoughtful analysis - not spun political rhetoric that seeks an emotionalized response.

Whether Carter is 100% right or not isn't the important point. All viewpoints should be considered and then a thoughtful conclusion has more likelihood of being reached. I think Bill Reilly's POV is possibly ridiculous and certainly untenable but I watch his show regularly because a lot of people in the US think like him and he does make some good points. That makes for interesting TV and I think it makes me more informed.

The problem with American politics is the polarized viewpoints that don't allow for intelligent discussion of the issues. I suspect the the truth usually lies somewhere in the middle.

The decision to go to war in Iraq will do long term harm to the United States in its ability to influence the region with soft power and even hard power. One of the main reasons this disaster occurred is that there were few dissenting voices leading up to the War and that the Democratic Party was in complete dereliction of duty. However the immediate post 9-11 time frame was one of extreme emotional response it's to bad we didn't have competent leaders at the helm.

When all sides mostly agree with emotional rhetoric like we did between 9-11 and "Shock and Awe" the consequences are disastrous. Mark my words - we do not yet fully appreciate how much the War in Iraq with hurt us.

Listening to shrill voices like Dershowitz has a place but we should be careful to also consider where his point of view comes from - uber pro-Israeli and thats not necessarily pro-United States.

IMO If the United States could broker a settlement between Israel and the Palestinians the the Arab nations saw as fair we would gain far more influence in the ME that even the best outcome in Iraq could possibly deliver. That would help the USA greatly but its impossible with the hard line many Israeli's take.
