Detroit, Jan. 7 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. and Ford
Motor Co., the world's largest automakers, will announce
alliances for staying in touch with customers via Internet
portal companies, the Detroit Free Press reported. GM will
announced an alliance with America Online Inc. and Ford will
announce an alliance with Yahoo Corp. at the Detroit auto show
next week, the Free Press said. Through the Internet portals,
customers will receive information on when their Ford or GM
vehicle needs servicing, how much money is still owed on a loan,
the names of nearby dealers, and other information, the Detroit
Free Press said.

On Nov. 2, GM announced an Internet-based purchasing
alliance with Commerce One Inc., while Ford announced a similar
alliance with Oracle Corp. Both automakers predicted major cost
savings.
