ISLAMABAD: A top Islamist politician Qazi Hussain Ahmad, who is the leader of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) that shares power in Pakistan's Balochistan and North West Frontier Province (NWFP), was denied visa by Egypt to attend the World Assembly of Muslim Youth held early this month.

Ahmad condemned Cairo's decision and called it "a service to the enemy aimed at disintegrating and dividing the Muslim Ummah," Pakistan Online news agency said.

The Daily Times newspaper quoted Ahmad as saying that past colonial rulers had introduced borders "to distance Muslims from each other" and visa restrictions was adding to these practices.

However, the newspaper did not cite any reason for the refusal by the Egyptian government. Ahmad is Amir of the largest Islamist political party Jamaat-e-Islami.
