The Jpost has an article today in which Israeli security experts say that the Taba attacks will drive Egypt into closer cooperation with Israel against the mutual enemy. Egypt until now has been giving halfway cooperation - they need to cooperate against AQ/Muslim Brotherhood, but they also wanted to support the Palestinians, so they turned a blind eye to the weapons smuggling through Rafah.

But now, AQ has struck against an Egyptian strategic necessity, the tourist industry. Furthermore, Iran was involved (according to Israeli sources), and the Pals are moving more into the Iranian orbit. The Egyptians, who are used to being the biggest influence on the Pals, can't afford to just sit and let this happen. So they may decide to take a more active role in Gaza again, and they have no choice but to cooperate with Israel against the perpetrators of these attacks.
