at what point, on the chart below--given your knowledge of the generally sheeplike behavior of investors--would you expect people to set up a thread devoted to cc's? and would you say such a decision could be considered in itself a contrarian market indicator?

Well, I do think the nature of new SI threads can be used as a contrarian indicator. For example, something called the SI Highlights thread made its debut just over a month before the Nas crested at 5000. Now that was a good time to sell.

It would also make sense that a thread started to talk about covered calls might start at the very time when stocks begin to rise strongly thus muting the returns to options writers, however, the SI classic thread "How To Write Covered Calls - An Ongoing Real Case Study!" was started way back in Feb. 1997. Over 13,000 messages were posted.
