I doubt very much that he thinks he's going in the wrong direction here. He believes in everything he's doing and expects to be successful.

All the Iranians are asking for is that he not recognize an illegitimate government and that he support a legitimate democracy. He boxed himself into a rock and a hard place by opening the door to dialogue with the thugocracy that's in place (for the moment). Most Iranians want them gone and are just looking for a crumb from him - not wishy-washy namby-pamby doubletalk.

He has to be getting the same info that we are, particularly since he called on Nico first - that's where most of the info from Iran is coming from, what most Iranians are reading. He's seen the same pictures. He knows the Guards are charging a "$3000 bullet charge" to the families to get the bodies of their loved ones back. He knows they aren't protesting the election anymore; they're protesting the whole government apparatus.
