Steve, Kent did not address his message to me, so I'll leave it to you three to answer him.
My thoughts on his message and his inquiry to date are that he is finding what he wanted to find, though it is distorted at best and false in other matters.
From what little I know of the source he is using, the "Jesus Seminar" "scholars," they are the Pharisees and Sadducees of today, but mostly resemble the Sadducees.
Jesus never advocated children hating their parents, as you and I know. Jesus meant simply that in comparison to the love we should have for God (all our heart, mind, soul and strength) that our love for our parents would be like hatred compared to our love for God. Those who want to understand, will. Kent, I believe, does not want to understand. And he didn't do a careful reading, because Jesus honored his earthly parents, affirmed that we should honor our mother and father, and at the very last, before he died on the cross, saw to it that his mother would be cared for. How could he miss all that?
Jehovah's Witnesses??? They deny the diety of Jesus, so where do they fit into his "investigation" of Christianity? But he doesn't know that.
But that is just one small portion of his essay of distortions and falsehoods.
Sounds like he swallowed the works of the wolves-in-sheep's clothing "Jesus Seminar" hook, line and sinker, without questioning it an iota. Which is strange, also, since he is supposedly approaching the whole subject with skepticism, why does he set aside his skepticism when it comes to their opinions? Oh yes, they have degrees, the honor of men upon men. "For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God..."
