Mark, Thanks for the firsthand info...
I'm not sure what to think. I'm glad GMGC is going up, but I can't find anything to explain it.
Maybe the following has something to do with it. It could very well be that the Onstar deal was much bigger than any of us realize...who knows?
GM Teams With AOL to Provide Vehicle Info
DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - news) and America Online (NYSE:AOL - news) on Sunday announced a strategic alliance to give users of the popular Internet provider access to GM vehicle information and a link to GM dealers.
America Online will launch later this year a redesigned Auto Channel, which will make shopping for a new car or truck easier by providing visitors complete information about GM makes and models and options, and then point them to a nearby GM dealership.
AOL will also launch My Calendar, a personalized calendar that allows vehicle owners to track routine maintenance and repair schedules.
''For the first time, AOL members can learn about new GM cars and special offers, immediately find the car they want from available inventory at a dealer near them and then buy it,'' AOL President and Chief Operating Officer Bob Pittman said in a press release.
GM and America Online also said they will explore future opportunities between OnStar, the wireless safety, security and information service available onboard many GM vehicles, and popular AOL interactive features. Additionally, GM and AOL will expand their relationship outside the United States and make AOL software available through GM marketing channels.
Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F - news) is close to a similar deal with Yahoo Inc. (NasdaqNM:YHOO - news), the Detroit Free Press reported on Friday. Ford officials declined to comment on the report. However, the newspaper said that Ford and Yahoo have booked a reception room at a Detroit hotel to celebrate the signing.
