An early boss of mine, that ran a Pizza Hut near the University of Texas, used to cheat frat boys out of daddy's money at poker games he ran in the back of the Hut. He showed me some of the tricks he used to do it.

He had a wide gold wedding band with a flat filed on the bottom that was highly polished. He used it as a mirror to see that cards he was dealing as he was dealing them. He could deal a hand at seemingly normal speed and tell you what was in each hand. But, he wasn't always the dealer.

He also marked the aces, kings and queens so he could identify them when he wasn't dealing. He'd "re-seal" a marked deck so he could open it as a new deck. He got the frat boys so drunk, he probably didn't need to cheat.

He was a Republican. His attitude toward other people's money was, if they were dumb enough to let him take it, he deserved it and they didn't.
