Russia isn't the USSR but it has some relevant similarities, to both the USSR and the old Russian Empire.

The wording was the title of what I posted. If I was to create my own I would have used "Soviet" or something along those lines. The point was about the USSR, but relevant to Russia in terms of all their "anti-Nazi" statements and the conversation here about Finland and others helping the Nazis, as justification for not including them in anti potentially anti-Russian alliance despite the fact that the Soviets themselves helped the Nazis a lot more and in more crucial ways, creating the threat that later harmed them.

Also if Russia gets some special consideration because of what happened there during the days of the Soviet Union, then other countries should get similar consideration because of what the Soviet Union did to them in that era, and the evil actions of the Soviet Union (at least against other countries) are still relevant. Give them such consideration then Poland (really the whole Warsaw Pact, but Poland was were they collaborated with the Nazis), and the Baltics, and Finland, and Ukraine, and others should reasonably get the same consideration related to what the Soviets did to them. Want to ignore those as "that was the USSR not Russia", well it was the USSR that was attacked by the Nazis and bled heavily in the effort to defeat them not Russia.

Russia wasn't treated like nothing had changed. Not even close to that until the February escalation of their war against Ukraine. Now its getting close, after 8 years of war against Ukraine, attacks against Georgia, maintaining a break away part of Moldova by force, etc.
