"If we can connect the desire of space with the desire of private companies to have their brand associated with heroes and speed and technology, everybody wins," he said.

It works for sports. What NASCAR team or pro skateboarder or BMXer could compete without sponsors? It's good business, good marketing, and an old and well used practice. Some people will bellyache that it cheapens the venture because it's a naked display of self-interest - the venture needs the money, the sponsor has the money and wants the publicity, so the venture sells advertising rights for the money. It's not nice pure altruism, it's "selling out". Well, sell outs get to space. Altruists get to stand on the ground and watch.
