Why Nevada?
Nevada has been one of the world’s leading gold producers for the past 15 years, ranking third in the world in 2002, behind only South Africa and Australia. While Nevada is indeed “Elephant Country” for large gold deposits, until the last year, the discovery rate for new deposits in the state had been declining for a decade. This decline is related to a decrease in exploration expenditures linked directly to a depressed gold price over this time period, and not due to a drying up of the state’s potential for hosting world-class gold deposits. To underscore this point, one need only look at Placer Dome’s recent discoveries in the Cortez area. A further validation of Nevada’s preeminent position for gold exploration is the 2003 Fraser Institute survey which ranked the state as the 2nd best region (out of 47) in the world for mining investment, behind only Chile.
Toquima Minerals US Inc. was formed in July 2003 to acquire and explore a portfolio of early-stage exploration properties with major deposit potential. The company is managed by Robert Thomas. Timothy Percival is a consultant to the company. Between them, Mr. Thomas and Mr. Percival have more than 50 years of experience in the mineral exploration industry, much of it in Nevada. Mr. Thomas is President. He has been engaged in mineral exploration since 1976, holding positions with several major companies. Career highlights include discoveries in Nevada and California. Most of Mr. Percival’s 25-year career has been devoted to precious metals exploration in the Great Basin, California, as well as Mexico, Southeast Europe, South America, and the Southwest Pacific for both major and junior companies. Nevada highlights include discoveries at several projects which continue to be explored and expanded.
Toquima intends to meet the renewed interest in Nevada gold exploration by acquiring quality Nevada properties that can be moved rapidly into the drill testing stage and ultimately be developed as mines. It has entered into option agreements on six exploration properties in Nevada, and currently controls over 13,000 acres (21 square miles) of unpatented mining claims. Two of these properties are located along the main Nevada gold trends, and four are located close to the gold trends. In addition to these six properties, Toquima has acquired two additional property positions in the Snake Mountains, Elko County, Nevada.
