>>Is it possible that this engineer was either 1) in error, 2) there was a miscommunication, or 3) simply telling you something you wanted to hear?<<
Yes, it is possible that there was a miscommunication, but I don't think that the engineer was in error or just telling me what I wanted to hear. In fact, I don't care either way whether or not there are spacer pads in Zip or Clik!, and I certainly wouldn't base an investment decision on their presence or absence.
In my own direct experience, Zip drives work reliably doing the job for which they were intended. I'm not really concerned, either as an investor or a technician, with whether or not they will work if you dribble them like a basketball while copying data to them.
I do not have any direct experience with Clik!, so I can't speak for them. Since you likewise have no direct experience with them, your opinion as to their reliability in the field is meaningless.
>>I just researched numerous Zip sites that feature disassembled Zip drives, and NONE of them seem to mention or contain any evidence (photo or otherwise) of this "spacer pad" feature.<<
I'd love to see those "numerous Zip sites". Can you provide URLs?
>>If you can point me to a web photo somewhere in which these pads are visible, or even mentioned offhand by the author, it would be appreciated. I would hate to think that Iomega Investors had taken the ball and run with it, all the while being in error.<<
Really, that's hilarious. "Everybody SELL! Zip's got no spacer pads!"
