Benjamin, I understand your skepticism, but it looks like YHOO will provide optimism for the start of the day, at least. Better to be short on the argument and long in the pocketbook, though!

Sympathy Plays : Robust numbers delivered by Yahoo! should draw attention to companies with advertising-driven models over the next few days, particularly names in the Internet portal space. Names to watch include Lycos (LCOS), AskJeeves (ASKJ), Go2Net (GNET), CNET Networks (CNET), Goto.com (GOTO), About.com (BOUT) and Looksmart (LOOK). Several of these names trading at or near 52-week lows.

07:04 ET US Markets : Nasdaq futures trading 74 pts higher, on strength of the Yahoo! earnings report.. S&P futures currently 7 pts above fair value, indicating Dow advance of approx. 55 pts at the open.

06:58 ET Yahoo! (YHOO) 105 1/2 : Trading up 14 pts in pre-market following report of better-than-expected quarterly results.
