The truth here is that the main enemy in the WOT is and has always been al quaeda, bin laden and the worldwide cells. The Ontario thing points that out to us once again. During WW2 we allied with stalin to defeat hitler. Iranians know that al quaeda will eventually targets all shiaa and iran. Whats needed with iran is a grand bargain that includes nukes, end to their isolation, mideast peace non-rejectionism on their part, and a recognition on our part that there will soon be a shiaa state in the south that will be an iranian protectorate of sorts. I think the realization has now set in in Washington that iraq is now lost and salvaging the most from this disaster now becomes the policy. Shiaa state and kurdish state do that or perhaps Party Lines two state--shiaa and 1/3 X 3groups secular has merit too. I think that if this story pans out and US is opening up to Iran and visa versa this will indicate a fundamental shift in US policy and i dont think we would have done this without assurances from iran thru russia perhaps, that they would be willing to compromise as well. If so, when history takes a look at this period down the road, this could be judged to be a key factor in the winning of the WOT.
