If left on their own I think they were heading in that direction. Unfortunately seeing another Baltic state surpass Russia was to much for their ego to take.

Here’s a good analysis of the fragile and twisted ego of Russia leaders that preferred war over what they perceive as “humiliation”.

Cities burned, hundreds of thousand killed or maimed, all for ego and lust for power.

I hope there’s a special place in hell for those in Russia that support this bloodthirsty, unprovoked war.
