Internet Stocks Year To Date: Amazing.com

With all of the action recently in the Internet sector, we decided to take a short breather, a step back, and pause for a big
picture overview. After all, it is very hectic in here all day, with all of the TV's, news wires, real-time quote systems, and continual
telelphone ringing. Not to mention the non-stop stream of emails from you, our readers (all welcome, by the way).

So, with that in mind, we decided to take just one PC into the conference room, and figure out just what has happened in the
Internet sector this year, to date, as we come up on the end of six months. To count up the change, so to speak.

It turned out to be a pretty stunning set of numbers. If you were in any of these stocks, you probably know. But for those of you
who weren't, check it out.

Without taking a lot of time to create a comprehensive list of all Internet stocks, we simply divided the Internet sector up into
arbitrary sub-sectors, then picked five stocks in each category. The stocks were mostly the first that came to mind. Not the
largest, not necessarily the best performers. Just the first we thought of.

Then we figured out the percentage gains for each of the stocks, and made the graph and tables below.

The quick summary?

Portals: the hottest area, with three doubles and a triple. Even the laggard is up over 60%.
E*commerce: the harshest area. Either you are a winner or struggling; the only sector with two triples. Also the only sector
with losers.
Providers: Another strong sector, with three doubles and a triple.
Infrastructure, Software: The only uniformly weak sector. Open Market has doubled, but it is still below its high from
last year.

But overall, there is no question that Internet stocks have been a very rewarding place to be this year.
