Could someone please tell me the difference between making a System Repair disc and System Repair discs?

When I bought a new computer a couple of years ago the first thing it prompted me to do was make a System Repair disc (it took one DVD).

A computer I purchased two weeks ago prompted me to make Recovery Discs (it will take 5 DVDs). Well, I didn't have 5 on hand and upon searching around the new one I noticed there was also an option to make a System Repair disc. Although I wasn't prompted to do so, I made one anyway.

Now, on looking back into the two year old computer I notice that it also has a Recovery Disc creator. If it is important, why wasn't I prompted to create them?

Do I need both for both computers? Is one more important than the other?

On my mini Dell I wasn't prompted to make any discs. I've been using it for a while so is it too late? Should I even bother?

As always, thanks in advance for any advice given.
