And before social security old people and especially old women as often as not lived in abject poverty or died in abject poverty.

SS really pulled millions of people out of poverty and especially old women.

I had to take care of my dear old mom (she was such a great mom) the last 23 years of her life. She was broken by life when her husband left her for a younger woman, and became psychotic for a while, was crippled by terrible arthritis and had no money.

She was a kind and intelligent woman who ever lived. I was lucky to have her for a mom.

I gave her my house to live in and money to pay her bills. Never asked for any welfare. Why I am still working.

But I always think, if I had not existed she would have died a horrible death.

That is what SS saved so many people from. Best program ever.
