Pentium 4 2GHz up for sale

INTEL IS PREPARING ITS distributors and dealers for the introduction of the Pentium 4 2GHz processor this month, with flavours already available at some of its biggest customers.
Both Ingram Micro and Tech Data have versions of the 2GHz available on their site. The boxed 2GHz/256 (BX80528JK200G ) in socket 423 is being listed at $565 at Tech Data, while the Pentium 1.5GHz Pentium 4 (BX80531NK150G) is listed at $140 in a Socket 478 version.
The 1.6GHz Pentium 4 in Socket 478 format is listed as $170 (BX80531NK160G), while the 1.7GHz S478 is listed as costing $200.00.
The 1.8GHz P4 in S478 is listed as $260 in Boxed mode (BX80531NK180G), while the 1.9GHz Pentium 4 (BX80531NK190G) costs dealers $375.
The socket 478 Pentium 4 2GHz costs the same as the 423 pin version. (Part number BX80531NK200G).
On the Pentium III front, the boxed 1.13GHz/256 is listed as $270, the 1.13GHz/512K is listed as costing $310, and the 1.2GHz/256 Pentium III Tualatin costs $295.
Intel 478 motherboards (i845) are also for sale, with the 845HV which includes support for P4 MATX MBD 845 PC133 4XAGP S478 AC97 3PCI CNR (this isn't too hard to work out), costing $118.
The other 845 motherboard (BOXD845HVL) costs $128 and supports P4 MATX MBD 845 PC133 4XAGP S478 AC97 3PCI LAN.
The third 845 motherboard Intel will introduce is the BOXD845WN which costs $120 and includes support for P4 ATX MBD 845 PC133 4XAGP S478 AC97 6PCI CNR
And the fourth part, which supports P4 ATX MBD 845 PC133 4XAGP S478 AC97 6PCI LAN, will cost $130.
Intel is expected to announce the new speed revs of the Pentium 4 below 2GHz and the desktop Tualatin Pentium IIIs probably at the beginning of next week.
The 2GHz Pentium 4 is being reserved for the end of the month. The prices Tech Data and Ingram quote are for their accredited dealers, who buy them and build them into systems.
Prices for 1000s will be different.
Prices on the 1.8GHz, 1.7GHz, the 1.6GHz, the 1.5GHz, the 1.4GHz, and the 1.3GHz Pentium 4 will all be cut on August 26th, with the 1.3GHz Pentium 4 disappaearing completely soon after. There will also be price cuts on the Xeon versions of the Pentium 4 Foster, that is 1.7GHz, 1.5GHz, and 1.4GHz.
The next big price cuts on Intel's Pentium III notebook processors and Celeron notebook chips will be on September 16th.
Intel has been much smarter with the introduction of the Pentium III-Tualatins and the Pentium 4s than it was with its last change of process, the Coppermine. It appears now to be ensuring there is sufficient stock in the channel to match the announcements it has made.
The latest pricelists released into the public domain can always be found on this page, and the simple application of spreadsheet technology allows you to see the general direction Intel is aiming its products. For example, the 1.8GHz at introduction cost $562, the same as the 2GHz Pentium 4 will at launch.
The INQUIRER wonders when Intel will introduce larger cache sizes for the Pentium 4, and also what the next member of its IA-32 will look like. It must already be under development. µ
