I was impressed that WDC mgmt came forward 5 weeks into the quarter, as it was not required.

Allow me to play the devil's advocate for a moment and present this alternate interpretation of their Nov 7 preannouncement.

In the Q1 conference call there was no indication of Fujitsu's invasion, they were comfortable with the mean estimate for Q2, no mention of yield problems.

3 weeks later: MASSIVE downward revision in earnings guidance, suddenly they're under attack from Fujitsu, suddenly they're having big yield problems in the 1.7G/p program, they're going to phase it out ASAP.

These things all changed in 3 weeks? They had -NO- idea about these things in the earlier conference call? I find that hard to believe. But, it's possible that the sh*t hit the fan all at once. It's a judgement call whether or not management held back in the Q1 CC.

Innocent until proven guilty.
