u s a was more the superpower then, than now. yet, it didn't even trade with ussr- and at least gain in one area- but, rather deserted hungary (really all of east europe- which eventually -many years later- did extricate themselves from ussr) and israel- partly because of pique that france, israel, england acted without it. u s a wanted arab oil. u s a has always backed egypt. u s a previously was sole nuclear power- yet, started down road with ussr and now many joining nuclear club. arabs won't accept israel being nuclear power and denial of nuclear weapons to them.
