Let the Shiites and the Sunnis battle it out without any Western headlines.
Iran wants to expand Shiite control in Iraq. Let them have it, the Shiites can do whatever they like to the Sunni Baathists left behind by Saddam.
I just don't see any purpose to helping a religious civilization that is indocrrinated on intolerance and murder. It's a fine line that we have to balance, but we have to try anyways.
Support the Sunni leaders in places like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan and Afghanistan. Help them resist the Sunni terrorists from al quaeda and the taliban. Restore power to the Shiites in Iraq, let the Iraqi security clean up the mess from here. Avoid the temptation to cause a coup in Syria, so the Shiite Baathists can suppress the Sunni majority. Pray to God that we don't have to lift a finger against Iran.
The greatest allies against the terrorists are the totalitarian leaders controlling the totalitarian terrorists. Only intolerance can balance the intolerance in this religious stalemate. It's a case by case analysis to create the most internal stability. Ironically, the key to victory is to remove anything these people want to fight about, no matter what the consequences.
The Islamic community has already committed itself to it's bloody tradition of Sharia and nothing will change their lack of tolerance. My only hope is to contain the situation, because the only thing coming out of that area for the next 100 years will be oil. There will never be economic progress or industrialization of the ME. These people live on figs, almonds, goat meat, prayer mats, and that's about it.
As a culture, they have no need for capital, just basic necessities. |
