UPDATE:EMEA PC shipments
experiencing growth in consumer
markets

M2 Communications - Wednesday, January 26, 2000

JAN 26, 2000, M2 Communications - PC shipments in Europe, the Middle East and
Africa (EMEA) rose to over 11m units in 4Q'1999, with strong consumer sales in
Western Europe offsetting a corporate slow down, according to new data
released by IDC.

The figures also show that for the whole of 1999, Western European PC sales
increased by 13.4% compared with 1998, the Eastern European market grew by
8.8% and the Middle East and African markets continued to show fast growth with
a 15.4% rise.

Among vendors, Compaq has maintained its leadership of the EMEA PC market in
1999 but faces stiff competition from its rivals, Fujitsu Siemens and Dell. Fujitsu
Siemens moved to the number two position, pushing Dell back into third place, IDC
reports.
