How is Intellectual Property is generated? R&D.

How big R&D is?
The study below extrapolates that total R&D Spending worldwide is in the region of US$2 trillion annually.
About 10 countries account for 80% of spending, according to the UNESCO.

In total, the Top 1000 Companies spent at least a combined US$858 billion on R&D in 2018.
According to Strategy&, their list of the Top 1000 companies accounted for approximately 40% of all R&D spending worldwide.

One implication of this is that the Indians, Russians, Chinese, Brazilians and everybody else want to move to the developed counttries. That means universities educate people to go to where the R&D money is.

A second implication is high tech companies (IBM, Microsoft etc) setting up R&D facilities in developing countries to employ these educated people in the countries they are in.
