Stu, here's an answer to your "I wish you people would stop harping on the Intel connection": an interview with INTC's President Craig Barrett:

Except:

Q. Are you looking to grow your network business more by acquisition or internal development? [Intel has acquired a couple of network companies, including Case Technology and Dayna Communications, Inc.]

A. Whatever works. We'll do whatever makes sense to move forward in the areas we want to focus on.

It should be clear that they will do whatever they want to do to go where they want to go. An alliance with Intel would be compelling to anyone, IMHO, and they already have a toe in the door with MRVC - not a huge one (the option to buy more stock) but one nonetheless.

More:

Q. So far, Intel has aimed its products mainly at small sites. Will the company ever make enterprise networks a priority?

A. Small businesses grow up to be big businesses. We have no intention to go after major backbone suppliers like Cisco [Systems, Inc.] at this point in time.

This is the guts of the interview from Network World's 3/9 issue (featured on NWFusion @ nwfusion.com
