Here's an article about deployments and agreements for cell phone systems such as VodaPhone. It's going to quickly become a graphic based system.

Sun and its competitors are moving aggressively to form early relationships with wireless Internet access, services and equipment providers. The business potential in wireless Internet services is enormous, said Ann Wettersen, vice president of business development and planning for Sun's network service provider division.
She said that today there are more wireless devices than personal computers, and that the number of mobile phones, pagers and other hand-held devices will surpass the number of televisions in the world in the next four years. In that four-year period, she said the number of wireless devices will grow to as much as 1 billion.
``You will continue to see big deals for Sun in the wireless space,' Wettersen said.
Sun will provide Vodafone with storage software and computer servers running on its Solaris operating system. Sun will also provide Web-based software applications such as e-mail, calendars and address books from its iPlanet suite.
Vodafone, which serves 35.5 million wireless service customers in 25 nations, announced Tuesday it planned to provide global Internet access to its customers over wireless phones and other devices.
I thought this movement called IPlanet was worth checking into again, and it's based on a Sun/Netscape alliance to manage all sorts of functions across platforms like wireless and wireline. It's really a very powerful story and not a unique one. How on earth can GMGC compete with this on a stand alone basis?
more on Iplanet. And yes, GMGC is not a partner. iplanet.com
