Yeah, that's kind of like what the 460GX, the first Merced/Itanium chipset, will do. And it will be "fast as hell."

By the way, are you sure that the 840's memory channels are paired and not independent? I'm still trying to find out myself.

But in the case of RDRAM, going from one to two channels is a relatively small jump, at least compared to moving from SDRAM to RDRAM. Of course, the costs are still there, but for the 840, this is acceptable because the markets that 840 serves are not very cost-sensitive. (And all the AMD supporters on this thread will answer with a collective "DUH!")
