Modem sound stuff ...

First, a disclaimer: I don't use Hyperterminal, so what I'm saying is from memory. Also, my memory isn't what it used to be.

The idea is to get your modem to respond to your keystrokes. Once Hyperterminal is running, type ATH (Attention Hangup) and your modem should respond with OK. Seeing the OK tells you that your modem 'heard' the ATH and your computer 'heard' the OK coming back.

I'm assuming you're beyond this if you've been able to dial.

It sound like you've been able to reach your modem through Hyperterminal, but something else is 'resetting' things differently and giving you a noisy modem again. Hyperterminal served it's purpose if it let you know what commands silence your modem. Now you must make your other software deliver those same commands for the desired result.

I'm sure you're not planning on using Hyperterminal beyond this bit of troubleshooting.

Cheers, PW
